Innovatively created to meet and exceed the rigorous needs of ultra-trace elemental applications is the NexION® 5000 multi-quadrupole ICP-MS, the first in its class to have four quads.
Delivering extraordinarily low background equivalent concentrations and remarkable detection limits, essential for providing reliable, repeatable findings, requires ICP-MS performance beyond the conventional triple quad. The NexION 5000 offers unequaled matrix tolerance, incredible stability, and outstanding interference elimination for performance users can count on.
The NexION 5000 has four quads and won three awards: the Wiley Analytical Science Award, The Analytical Scientist Innovation Award, and the R&D 100 Award.

Overview
The NexION 5000 ICP-MS is appropriate for the most demanding applications and was made with the lowest background equivalent concentrations (1 ppt, even in hot plasma) in mind. It has a variety of novel and exclusive technologies that collectively outperform classic triple-quad capabilities and raise the bar for what users might expect:
- Four quadrupoles
- First: Quadrupole Ion Deflector (Q0) directs ions to the entrance of the first mass filter
- Second: As an ion guide or mass filter, Transmission Analyzer Quadrupole 1 (Q1, full-sized for 0.3 amu) directs ions to the Quadrupole Universal Cell
- Third: Dynamic bandpass tuning, which is used by the quadrupole universal cell (Q2), guards against side reactions with the cell’s remaining reaction gases
- Fourth: A mass filter or an ion guide, Transmission Analyzer Quadrupole 2 (Q3, full-sized for < 0.7 amu mass resolution) directs ions to the detector
- Extended Dynamic Range (EDR) raises the linear dynamic range to a value of 1014 and enables the analysis of both high- and low-concentration analytes in a single run, reducing the number of repeat runs
- Low upkeep for higher uptime:
- For continuous operation and increased stability, the Triple Cone Interface with the patented OmniRing™ and Quadrupole Ion Deflector requires no maintenance beyond the cones
- Free-running RF generator at 34 MHz provides a trouble-free user experience - The plasma is created by the LumiCoil™ RF load coil, which is passively cooled by the extraction (no water or gas cooling required), making it maintenance-free and removing the need to replace plasma load coils
- External status lighting improves efficiency by allowing simple observation of the condition of analysis
- The Syngistix™ for ICP-MS software combines the capabilities of triple-quad ion optics with automated and user-friendly workflows and a modern user interface
- The ability to upgrade to SEMI S2/S8 certification provides simplicity of integration in cleanroom facilities
