How to Identify Balyakinite
Balyakinite can be identified in the field by its color variations, such as blue-green, and gray-green. This mineral has a light blue-green streak.
The density of balyakinite is 5.64 g/cm3, with a hardness of 3.5 – approximate to a copper penny.
Global Distribution
Balyakinite is distributed mainly in Russia, from the Pionersk deposit, eastern Sayan, and the Aginsk goldtelluride deposit, Kamchatka, Far Eastern Region.
Occurrence of Balyakinite and Useful Mineral Association
Balyakinite occurs in a rare mineral, formed in the oxidation zone as an alteration product of Cu–Te sulfides.
It is often associated with minerals such as tetrahedrite, chalcopyrite, tellurite, bogdanovite, teineite, quartz, and bilibinskite.
