Logging is the process of making a record of geological observations of the drill core on computer storage or on paper. There are different types of logging tools and instruments available for logging mining data. The tools used are based on the type of logging technique being followed. In some cases, a single tool is lowered into a drilled hole and measurements are recorded as a function of the depth. Apart from making geophysical measurements, logging is also done for oil and gas explorations, groundwater explorations, and so on.
Mining logs are a source of vital information regarding a mining site; conclusions regarding the site are drawn based on log data. Mining logs adhere to a particular format for logging the information. Mining logs provide data for geologic analysis, interpretation, and resource calculations.
Well Logging
Well logging is one of the oldest of all logging methods, and is also the most widely used. The geophysical properties of rocks present at the subsurface level are revealed by well logging. In this method, a well is drilled and all the required data is measured using a core. Well logging is also known as bore hole logging. Continuous core recovery is usually done for critical missions that require detailed analysis.
Other Logging Techniques
Some of the other logging techniques are listed below:
- Gamma ray logs
- Electrical logs
- Porosity logs
- Lithology logs
