Extreme Environments can Benefit from ID Clad Wear Pipe

The NanoSteel Company has developed high hardness and abrasion resistant pipes especially for use in high wear applications and extreme industrial conditions. The pipes have weld overlay hardfacing applied to their internal surfaces, thereby enabling robust operation. The weld overlay hardfacing application process was formulated by Trimay Wear Pipe under license from the Nanosteel Company.

Key Properties of Nanosteel’s ID Clad Wear Pipe

The properties of the ID Clad Wear Pipe from Nanosteel are:

  • Superior resistance to sliding and slurry abrasion
  • High hardness and toughness properties
  • Prolonged wear life
  • Suitable cost/performance ratio over competing materials
  • Reduced pipe shrinkage
  • Minimal elongation

Advantages of Nanosteel’s ID Clad Wear Pipe

When a consistent 15% dilution rate is maintained, a continuous weld bead can be applied evenly on the inner side along the entire length of the pipe, thus ensuring less than 1% elongation and less than 1% minimal shrinkage on the ID. Strong cohesion between a substrate and the ID overlay and simple on-site pipe alignment and installation is also realized. The orientation of the weld bead is perpendicular to the flow of material to enable even wear resistance along the length of the pipe.

ID Clad Wear Pipe Connection Process

Nanosteel has manufactured ID hardfaced wear pipe in such a manner that it can be connected by threaded joints or by flange. Another additional advantage is that the joints fit flush, thereby minimizing wear and causing a longer lasting weld seam at every connection.

Other Provisions from Nanosteel

Nanosteel offers a collection of transitions and bends/elbows in different sizes that can be welded continuously on the ID.

About Nanosteel

The NanoSteel Company is an advanced materials company which has created a unique and proprietary portfolio of nanotechnology based and environmentally friendly steel alloys that greatly increase the value of steel in most of today’s industrial applications.

Product success has been through the development of Super Hard Steel® (SHS) alloys which feature nanoscale microstructures. SHS alloys are for use as metallic coatings within power generation, mining, cement, concrete and oil & gas industries.
