A leading materials company, NanoSteel Company has carved a niche for itself by developing innovative and proprietary environmentally-friendly steel alloys based on nanotechnology. These steel alloys improve the value of steel to a great extent in many industrial applications.
The NanoSteel’s Super Hard Steel (SHS) alloys are nanoscale microstructures for use as metallic coatings in various industries such as mining, oil & gas, power generation, cement, and concrete. The SHS alloys are applied using thermal spray and weld overlay processes to industrial components, thereby enhancing the service life in environments of wear and corrosion and preventing expensive replacements/alternatives and environmentally harmful chrome plating.
Abrasion, Erosion and Corrosion
In cement plants, industrial centrifugal blowers are used to provide ventilation of hot gases (= 500° C) consisting of fine particle dust expelled from high temperature environments inside clinker ovens, clinker coolers and preheat towers.
NanoSteel Coating and Overlay Wear Plate
The specifications of the NanoSteel Coating and Overlay Wear Plate are:
- NanoSteel overlay wear plate solution, 0.236 in (6 mm) thickness – aids in resisting massive abrasion and is installed on fan blade and disk surfaces that are exposed to greatest wear.
- NanoSteel coating solution, 0.039 (1 mm) thickness – aids in resisting fine particle corrosion and erosion, and is applied to the wear plate and remaining fan blade and disk surfaces.

Figure 2. Unprotected steel fan blades are worn and must be replaced after 2-4 months.
Figure 3. NanoSteel overlay/coated wear plate & fan surfaces after 12 months.
Advantages of NanoSteel Coating and Overlay Wear Plate
The NanoSteel coating and overlay wear plate has a well established performance track record with 3-fold extended service life. Unprotected steel fan blades become worn after a period of two-to-four months and require replacement, whereas fan blade and disk surfaces coated with the NanoSteel coating and overlay wear plate solutions have better wear resistance and show very little wear even after a period of 12 months.
About Nanosteel
The NanoSteel Company is an advanced materials company which has created a unique and proprietary portfolio of nanotechnology based and environmentally friendly steel alloys that greatly increase the value of steel in most of today’s industrial applications.
Product success has been through the development of Super Hard Steel® (SHS) alloys which feature nanoscale microstructures. SHS alloys are for use as metallic coatings within power generation, mining, cement, concrete and oil & gas industries.
