The Society for Mining, Metallurgy & Exploration (SME), is pleased to announce the Mine Tailings Symposium to be held February 24-26, 2020 at the Phoenix Convention Center during the MineXchange 2020 SME Annual Conference & Expo. Recent incidents in Canada and Brazil have brought the industry under close scrutiny.
This SME Symposium will explore topics critical to the global mining industry. Designed to fully address the current tailings-related issues facing the industry, the Symposium sessions offer a deeper understanding of industry developments. The Opening Keynote Session to MineXchange will feature top executives from four major mining companies discussing their strategies for tailings management in a changing environment.
“The future for the mining industry hinges on integrating emerging innovations and technologies into daily operations for maximum efficiency,” said SME Executive Director David L. Kanagy. “This Symposium on tailings demonstrates SME’s commitment to provide valued information about best safety practices, critical engineering and technical knowledge to the mining and minerals community.”

A special session on Managing Gangue Minerals will explore the subject of declining ore grades which is of concern to many mining operators. Experts from industry and academia will share their knowledge on a variety of aspects related to the management of gangue minerals in mineral processing and hydrometallurgical circuits.
