Messina Minerals Inc. (TSX VENTURE:MMI) has commenced exploratory drilling at the Boomerang massive sulphide prospect within its Tulks South Property located in central Newfoundland, Canada.
Three drill holes are planned to test the Hurricane target area for an estimated 1,000 meters of drilling. The objective of the drill program is to infill an area of significant copper-lead-zinc sulphide mineralization that, contingent upon positive results, would support a first estimate of mineral resources for this target.
Peter Tallman, President and CEO, states, "The resumption of drilling in the Boomerang area after a 3 year hiatus is a welcome positive step to Messina's 12-month exploration objectives in central Newfoundland. These objectives include completing a NI43-101 estimate of zinc-lead mineral resources at the Long Lake Property, sampling historic archived drill core from the Tulks East B Zone within the Tulks South Property in order to also prepare the B Zone for an estimate of zinc-lead mineral resources, and completing additional exploration and drilling programs on several priority target areas including Hurricane. Recent financings have provided the funding to commence this current program."
Tulks South Property: Geological Context and Resource Estimate
Massive sulphides containing zinc, lead, copper, silver and gold were discovered by Messina in 2005 on the Tulks South Property at Boomerang. Since that time two adjacent massive sulphide zones, Boomerang and Domino, have been outlined by drilling. Boomerang has been defined from 50 meters to 350 meters depth from surface and contains approximately 1.7 million tonnes of mineralization as follows:
Domino lies beneath Boomerang from 450 meters to 550 meters depth from surface and contains approximately 0.4 million tonnes of mineralization as follows:
Drill Target Area: Hurricane
The area 500 meters along strike to the east of Boomerang hosts the 'Hurricane' prospect which currently has no mineral resources estimated. Hurricane zinc mineralization has been intersected in 7 holes between 3875E and 4100E over a 225 meter distance at 200 meters below surface including GA07-214 on 3925E which intersected 13.2 meters of 1.7% copper, 9.5% lead, 14.7% zinc, 231 g/t silver and 1.1 g/t gold. Hurricane remains open up dip and along strike to the east. The drill program in progress will test this zone further.
