Leighton Holdings Ltd (ASX:LEI) recently announced that its Asia unit had won a five year mining contract worth AUD$172 million in Indonesia.
The subsidiary called Leighton Asia will provide mining services at the Martabe Gold Mine in North Sumatra Province.
The company will undertake the mine haul road construction, top soil removal, drill and blast, mining of waste and construction of mine infrastructure for G-Resources Group Ltd. Now with this new contract in hand Leighton Asia's work is taken to a record level of more than $7 billion as per the statement released on Monday.
The managing director of Leighton Asia, Hamish Trywhitt mentioned that the new contract in Indonesia will help the company to diversify its mining operations in Indonesia by commodity and geography They will also be able to optimize local employment opportunities.
To highlight their commitment to the local community Leighton Asia will also be providing the locals with intensive training programs.
