Readers of Mining Magazine, a leading industry media, have voted Metso Outotec the winner in two categories in the annual competition celebrating outstanding achievements that advance the state of play in the mining industry. Metso Outotec received the award in the Software category for its innovative Geminex™ metallurgical digital twin and in the Services Support category together with Codelco for the Gabriela Mistral project.
Metso Outotec Geminex™ is a game-changing metallurgical digital twin that was launched in March 2022. It combines online operational data and expertise, delivering insight-driven performance that gives efficient management of variability in mining, pyro- and hydrometallurgical operations.
“We are delighted by the excitement that Mining Magazine readers have shown towards Geminex™. Since its launch, Geminex™ has attracted tremendous interest. It enables our customers to take a quick digital leap ahead in terms of managing variability in their operations by scenario planning and control while achieving better environmental and financial performance,” says Veli-Matti Järvinen, Vice President, Automation at Metso Outotec.
The Codelco Gabriela Mistral project in Chile was executed for more than 6,000 hours without accidents, thanks to the committed leadership of both companies. After 15 years of operation, Codelco's Gabriela Mistral Division (DGM), aligned with its sustainable objectives and without expanding its footprint, decided to modernize its two cathode stripping machines, an activity that comprised technical recommendations, the supply of components and additional service by Metso Outotec. The project included the installation, commissioning and start-up of a Chiseling knife unit, Down Ender downer unit, DDU deflector unit and Rejected Unit.
“We are very proud of the successful cooperation with Codelco. To conclude a demanding modernization project without accidents is a great demonstration of the benefits of careful planning and effective cooperation. Using services and upgrades to improve existing equipment is a key way to optimize performance over time. Modernized equipment is also safer to use and maintain, which helps to ensure a sustainable business,” says Eduardo Nilo, President, South America market area at Metso Outotec.
