Petrolympic Ltd has announced a drilling program on the Vauquelin-Rayon d'Or Property. The property is situated on the eastern extension of the renowned Cadillac Break inside the Val-d'Or Mining Camp, 30 km east of Val-d'Or, Québec. It comprises 37 mining claims totaling 2,129 hectares.
Drilling on the northwest side of Gueguen Lake earlier revealed the presence of the Rayon d'Or gold zone. Within altered and fractured zones, the auriferous mineralization is linked to veins, veinlets, and dissemination of sulfides (mostly pyrite and pyrrhotite). The values that were found to be the most significant at shallow depth were 3.37 g/t Au / 3.44 m (DDH V-89-75), 3.83 g/t Au / 3.08 m (DDH 6W-C-5), and 12.74 g/t Au / 3.96 m (DDH 1).
A 100-meter drilling campaign conducted in the southeast of Rayon d'Or in 2023 expanded its mineralized zones. Numerous quartz-carbonate-tourmaline veins, containing 1 to 10 % disseminated pyrite and traces of chalcopyrite, were found within two strongly altered, sheared, and fractured zones, each over 20 meters thick. The veins yielded assay results of 0.62 g/t Au over 7.5 meters and 2.14 g/t Au over 9 meters, including a higher-grade section of 6.25 g/t Au over 3 meters (VAU-23-10).
A vein that recovered 5.48 g/t Au over 1 m in the quartz-carbonate-tourmaline-pyrite vein and 0.52 g/t Au over 3 m in the deeper tourmaline-pyrite vein intersected deeper along the hole, about 200 m south of Rayon d'Or (VAU-23-03).
This mineralized zone was extended approximately 450 meters to the southeast, with hole VAU-23-18 intersecting 0.52 g/t Au over 6 meters. This intersection is associated with a broad-sheared and fractured zone containing quartz-carbonate-tourmaline-pyrite veins, with up to 10 % pyrite and locally thin semi-massive pyrite zones.
A promising IP anomaly, identified in 2022, lies 200 meters southeast along this NW-SE IP axis, indicating potential for future exploration in the area.
Approximately 900 meters southeast of Rayon d'Or and on the east side of Gueguen Lake, a previous diamond drill hole (#82-6) intersected a 10-meter-wide fractured and mineralized zone, yielding a gold intersection of 2.06 g/t Au over 1.83 meters, including 3.08 g/t Au over 0.61 meters.
During a prospecting and biogeochemical sampling effort in the central and eastern areas of the property, extensions of the gold-bearing structures in the southeast portion of the Rayon d'Or deformation corridor were discovered.
Anomalous gold, copper, and zinc values were detected, corresponding to mineralized structures identified by Magnetic and Induced Polarization Resistivity (Mag-IP) surveys in the southeastern extension of Rayon d'Or. A supplemental IP study has been suggested for further exploration in this area.
The 2024 drilling program was designed to target priority areas identified by IP-Resistivity surveys east of Gueguen Lake. It also aims to explore the lateral extension of existing gold-mineralized zones at Rayon d'Or and the newly identified gold-bearing structures from the 2022-2023 exploration program.
Previous drilling campaigns have identified large, highly deformed, and mineralized zones crossing the Vauquelin property, increasing the likelihood of finding gold zones similar to those discovered on neighboring properties. This structural environment is akin to that of Cartier Resources' Chimo mine, located less than 5 km south of the property.
The mineralization at Chimo, much like that at the Vauquelin-Rayon d'Or Property, consists of multiple gold zones associated with three deformation pathways.
Recently, Probe Gold announced a significant increase in gold resources for all Val-d'Or east assets, with 6,728,600 ounces in measured and indicated (M&I) and 3,277,100 ounces in inferred resources across all trends and deposits.
Eldorado Gold Corporation has also exercised its option to acquire a 75 % stake in Sparton Resources' Bruell gold project, which is situated east of Val d'Or, Quebec, and approximately 5 km north of the Vauquelin property.
Petrolympic, a gold exploration company, operates projects in Quebec, a region frequently ranked among the world’s top mining jurisdictions.
