Montreal-based La Mancha Resources has confirmed that mining activities at their gold mine in the Cote d'Ivoire are running as normal. On Tuesday Newcrest Mining had said that it was suspending operations in the country due to the tensions caused by the disputed elections.
Other companies such as Randgold Resources and Cluff Gold said that they were also continuing operations as usual in the country. La Mancha Resources clarified that the situation in the Zouan Hounien region in western Côte d'Ivoire has remained calm since the start of the election process therefore allowing the continuation of the Ity mine operations.
In a statement the company said that since December 8th the mining and milling activities were going on even through business hours had been affected by the curfew that was imposed on last Saturday. The largest risk to the operations is from road use as a number of consumables need to be transported to the site from Abidjan by truck.
Dominique Delorme, President and CEO of La Mancha said that it was a difficult period for the country and the company’s priority was the safety of its employees and their families. All exploration work has been halted as of now, while the situation is being closely monitored by the company.
