Obama Responds to Gulf Oil Spill Criticisms

Renewed criticism for Barack Obama and his government in the handling of the oil spill crisis in the Gulf of Mexico has brought the US President for a 3 hour tour of the affected area. The Oil Spill was caused by the blowing up of a BP rented rig in the Gulf of Mexico.

US experts have estimated that between 35,000 to 60,000 barrels per day were being spewed out of the ruptured well on the sea base. The massive amount of crude oil is becoming a huge threat to the US coastline from Louisiana to Florida.

To emphasis the gravity of the situation President Obama gave his statement in a debut prime time address from the Oval Office. He was flanked by the US Flag and a flag with the presidential seal. He underscored that he intended to take BP to task for the environmental hazard they had created.

He also asked the new generation of Americans to become innovative to generate energy from renewable power sources. The US has demanded that BP set up a 20 billion dollar escrow to pay for the clean up. BP’s American boss McKay declined to comment on the issue.
