Brunei Shell Petroleum (BSP - Shell 50%) discovers new oil in coastal waters of the south-east Asian sultanate, Geronggong.
The new oil discovery is located in the third Offshore land Area, just about 100km offshore where water depth is around 1000m, the deepest water depth wherein BSP has unraveled hydrocarbons in Bruneian land area.
BSP uses Noble Phoenix, which is a deepwater drilling rig for the new oil discovery. Before arriving at Brunei, this drillship underwent renovation and recertification on its thrusters, riser and blow out preventer (BOP) systems for Shell's Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) criteria for deepwater drilling.
The major addition in deepwater volume has increased the ongoing near field exploration in Brunei. It is a demonstration of the quality of the technological exploration analysis carried out in Brunei Shell Petroleum.
The review of full field recovery potential that includes further evaluation drilling over the next two years are involved in the follow-up plans.
