The NanoSteel® Company, a leader in coating technologies, today announced results from an overlay wear plate application on a mining haulpak truck which has increased service life by a factor greater than four and resulted in significant operating cost savings and increased revenue for a mining customer.
When a haulpak truck in service at an underground molybdenum mine in the Western United States dumps ore, the load slides over a pair of doors previously lined with Brinell 500 wear plate. Severe sliding abrasion results in the replacement of these wear plates every six months.
To reduce the number of replacement cycles, the mine incorporated NanoSteel SHS 9700 overlay wear plates in the place of the Brinell 500 plates. After 28 months of consecutive service, representing over 4.5 times the life of the Brinell 500 plates, and more than 3 million tons of ore hauled, the NanoSteel plates are still on the job.
“By eliminating three pairs of replacement wear plates along with downtime and manpower costs during three replacement cycles, NanoSteel is providing a more durable and reliable wear package, helping the customer to significantly reduce operating expenses and increase revenue,” said Dave Paratore, president and CEO.
The NanoSteel Company, Inc., headquartered in Providence, R.I., designs and sells a portfolio of patented nanostructured alloys for thermal spray coating and weld overlay for hardfacing and wear plate applications. NanoSteel’s Super Hard Steel® alloys feature a very unique combination of high hardness and high toughness properties which results in exceptional resistance to corrosion, erosion, impact and wear in a wide range of complex service environments.
