Ithaca Energy has drilled and cased the last production well at the Athena field. This well has encountered a substantial oil saturated net reservoir having fine porosities. Currently, Ithaca has completed the development drilling and is planning to begin the production in the fourth quarter of 2011 at around 22,000 barrels of oil per day (bopd) in gross and approximately 5,000 bopd in net.
14/18b-A2Z, the field development well of Athena has cut the net reservoir at a depth of 515 ft in the well bore’s sub horizontal section, which has been drilled to 15,497 ft. Presently, Sedco 704, the drill rig, is going forward with the running of the completion equipment and prick the water injection well, field development well and the three present suspended production wells.
Ithaca has directionally drilled the well to the northwest of the Athena field, where the Scapa A reservoir has been found at a measured depth of 11,967 ft. The electric logs got across the interbedded Scapa age sandstones and shales’ complete reservoir section has verified the reservoir sand series with having a 20% porosity. Ithaca has identified two high porosity sandstone units near the top of the reservoir.
Alteration and recertification work on the floating production, storage and offloading (FPSO) vessel BW Athena is progressing well. The vessel is isolated for installing a turret docking section that is being soldered into the structure amidships. The ship will be expanded for around 65 ft.
