Calibre Mining has released the primary sampling results from the surface exposures and trenches from the region around the significant Santa Rita open pit mine. This mine is rich in gold and copper and is situated in the company’s Borosi concessions in northeast Nicaragua.
The location of the mine is in Rosita that is 275 km northeast of Managua’s capital city. In 1906, proper mining was conducted in the area and estimated a historic production of 177,737 oz gold, 2,629,720 oz silver and 305 million lbs of copper from 5,924,572 t of ore. The mine’s average grades was estimated at 0.925 g/t gold, and 15.08 g/t silver and 2.06% copper historically. Due to the low price of copper, the mine was closed in 1975.
The company has collected 71 rock samples in total from 17 trenches of the Santa Rita open pit’s north and south parts. It has encountered 1.06 g/t gold, 9.33 g/t silver and 0.96% copper over 12.0 m in the trench STR11-002 and 0.15 g/t gold, 55.82 g/t silver and 3.26% copper over 8.30 m in the trench SRTR11-010.
Besides the trenching program, Calibre collected 31 surface rock samples from the north and south areas of the historic open pit during the phase I mapping program. It has yielded more than 1.0 g/t gold from the 15 out of the collected 31 samples and 5.36 g/t gold in the hole B11R3087. Moreover, the company has encountered over 0.4% copper from the 25 of the 31 samples and 1.87% copper in the hole B11R3081.
The CEO and President of the company, has commented that historic Santa Rita open pit’s first sampling results authenticate the potential to find further gold and copper mineralization in the surrounding area of this previous producer. The preliminary findings and the past data will be compared and exercised to prepare a huge pit bench sampling program, which contains sampling of the tailings locations, old mine dumps and stockpiles in the historic mining region.
