Lundin Petroleum has discovered gas at the Cempulut-1 well in East Malaysia. This well was drilled in Block SB303 of the offshore Sabah.
The company drilled this Cempulut-1 well by employing the Offshore Courageous drill rig in water at a depth of around 75 m. The total depth of the well is 1,095 m.
A huge Late Miocene carbonate reef along with the outstanding reservoir properties were encountered in this Cempulut-1 well. The company found around 50 m of gross total vertical pay thickness. But it turned out to be water, instead of oil.
It has completed a program of wide data acquisition that comprises a mini flow test, measurement of pressure, sampling. The recovered information from the well will be additionally examined to find out an array of resource estimates.
The CEO and President of Lundin Petroleum, has commented that this is the company’s second gas discovery in SB303 block and the third well in the agreement area containing the TitikTerang discovery. All the three discoveries are located closely to each other and also with further undrilled prospects and leads in the block. This is an apparent chance to estimate the prospective for a group development.
Currently, the company will mobilize the rig to drill the BatuHitam prospect in PM308A, which is the third well in company’s 5-well drilling program performed in Malaysia during 2011.
Lundin Petroleum has 75% interest in SB303 via its supplementary Lundin Malaysia, whose partner PETRONAS Carigali is having 25%.
