Trafina Energy Drills Third Vertical Evaluation Well in McMullen

Trafina Energy has performed drilling, coring, testing and casing at its third well in northeastern Alberta’s McMullen region. Trafina Martin Hills located at the 11-28 well was rig-released.

The company has found Wabasca A sand for 7.5 m at the 11-28 well. Also, the two variables needed for pressure, viscosity and commercial production, have been calculated. A bottom-hole pressure of 1,650 and 1,950 kpa was signified, when the pressure test was conducted at the well and also the recovered oil from the core had around 30,000 centipoises of viscosity. According to the news release of July 2011, viscosity should be below 50,000 centipoises and pressure should be more than 1,200 kpa.

Though the Wabasca zone has been interpreted to be a blanket sand, it is not a uniform reservoir. Industry knowledge has exposed that every drilled well may demonstrate distinctly unlike features of pressure, viscosity, porosity, water saturation and pay thickness. So, the company plans to pronounce the results of every evaluation well drilled vertically.

The company is preparing for the completion of operations at the second well, which is drilled at 5-28 during the program and is expecting the initial production at the earliest. Then, the drill rig will be mobilized to 16-28 that was the primary well drilled in the McMullen region, returning Wabasca A sand of 8.5 m. The company will complete the 11-28 well soon. It is building production tanks for 11-28 and 16-28 well and these tanks will reach the site before the August end.

Trafina is encouraged with the preliminary three well drill program results. The vagaries of production features and the reservoir are undefined at this point. So, production testing will show the direction and focus of the next development phase at the McMullen area in the subsequent 60 to 90 days. This phase may contain continuous step-out definition wells or pod development.
