Dragon Mining has good news from the Hangaslampi gold deposit in Finland. The exploratory drilling program at the gold deposit situated in the Kuusamo Gold project in the north of the country has found high levels of cobalt and rare earth elements in addition to the gold that it expected to find.
Historically speaking the area has been known to have high grade ores near the surface in the region. The company gave the highlights from the first four drill holes. This includes 3.40 grams per tonne of gold from 5 to 15 meters. Another one had 9.33 grams per tonne gold from 2.50 to 15 meters. Yet another one had 2.11 grams per tonne gold from 4.70 meters to 46 meters.
The pleasant surprise did not come from the easy accessibility of high grade coal but from the presence of cobalt and rare earth elements which were found in conjunction with or separate from the gold mineralization. There have also been some sporadic findings of elevated uranium levels at the site.
The Dragon Mining company has been drilling at the Hangaslampi gold project since the month of May 2011. It has drilled 20 holes covering 2,200 meters to test the extension of already identified Iodes. The gold deposit at Hangaslampi is said to host 55,700 ounces of gold at 6.2 grams per tonne. It is situated a kilometer south of the Juomasuo gold deposit in the Juomasuo-Hangaslampi Trend.
