CBM Asia Development has proclaimed that Medco Energi has obtained the final data of gas content from Core Laboratories for the CBM-SE-04 well, which is situated at the South Sumatra-based Sekayu coalbed methane production sharing contract.
Core Laboratories performed gas content test on nine coal samples, which were desorbed and cored from Sekayu block’s CBM-SE-04 well, which formerly penetrated coal of 147 ft in total. The range of gas contents is from 76 to 203 scf/ton on a dry, ash-free base.
This gas content range is around three times the average coal seam gas content in Wyoming’s Powder River Basin in USA. The US Geological Survey and several other professionals believe it to be South Sumatra’s nearest profitable CBM analog. The Powder River Basin is the second most prolific CBM basin in the world and is presently producing 1.5 Bcfd from a low-rank, thick coal seams identical to the coal occurring in South Sumatra.
The Chairman of CBM Asia has stated that the gas content from the CBM-SE-04 well is 40% higher than expected. The production of gas instantly from the adjacent wells CBM-SE-02 and -03 wells former to stimulation and with least dewatering is extremely positive. The works of Medco at the Sekayu PSC continues to substantiate high-grade gas content, permeability and high gas saturation in the thick coals located across the block.
