Lundin Petroleum, an independent firm exploring and producing oil and gas in Africa, Europe, South East Asia and Russia, has reported the beginning of a drill program at the Janglau prospect, which is situated in Block PM308A, offshore to the Peninsular Malaysia’s eastern shoreline.
The company’s Janglau-1 well will examine the potential of hydrocarbons at the Eocene to Oligocene alluvial sands that lies over a pre-tertiary high, which additionally has outlined a second purpose of the exploration well. The location of this Janglau prospect is to the northeast part of the PM308A block, which is situated 7 km to the Rhu oil discovery’s eastern direction that was made in 1991.
Lundin has scheduled drilling depth is 3,950 m subsea. Offshore Courageous, the jack-up drill service rig will be employed to drill the well. It is anticipated to take around 45 days to explore the well.
Lundin Petroleum has 35% of interest in the PM308A block by its own subsidiary Lundin Malaysia BV and it is the operator of the project.
JX Nippon Oil & Gas Exploration with 40% of interest and PETRONAS Carigali with 25% interest in the PM308A block are the partners of the company.
Six blocks, namely PM307, PM308A, PM308B, SB303, SB307 and SB308, are operated by Lundin Malaysia BV.
