Benton Resources, a Canada-based junior company, has provided an update on its Sewell-West Timmins property, which is situated 40 km west of Timmins Mine owned by Lakeshore Gold and 60 km west of Timmins in northwestern Ontario. The property includes 13 claims that were optioned in July, 2011.
In summer and fall of 2011, the company set up a 48 km grid across the middle of the property. IP, mapping, prospecting, and ground magnetometer surveys were carried out. A number of regions of anomalous gold mineralization were identified. The baseline showing area appeared to be the most significant, where 40 surface grab samples, gathered by the company across a 300 m strike length, returned values that varied from trace to 5.09 gpt gold. Mineralization at the Baseline Showing area exists inside a NNW trending shear zone that features lesser ultramafic volcanic rocks, highly modified chert-magnetite iron formation that is rich in sulphide, and a carbonate modified mafic.
During 2011 December, the company completed an eight-hole drill program to examine the Baseline Showing area that showed substantial results, including 1.38 gpt gold over 2.3 m in hole SW11-06, 94.018 gpt gold over 1.1 m in hole SW11-03, and 1.44 gpt gold over 1.1 m in hole SW11-08. Holes SW11-01, 02, 04, 05 and 07 returned values ranging from trace to weak anomalous gold.
Benton Resources is happy with the high grade results in hole SW11-03. It is presently evaluating all the information from the 2011 projects. The company has planned a second exploration program that will focus on the gold-bearing horizon to the south and north of drill hole SW11-03. It is also exploring other zones on the property.
