American Petro-Hunter has reported the commencement of the horizontal drilling program for oil and gas at the South Oklahoma project leases. The first well has been named as SOM-1H, which will be spud on the last week of March, 2012. The company is currently preparing the site and the drilling contractor may move the drill rig to the location.
This project has enclosed a gross region that covers more than 5,000 ac. The well is specifically designed to drill around 2,500 ft of lateral segment to the Mississippian formation, which is 100 to 120 ft wide across the total prospect region. The company has planned to utilize the benefits of the new technological developments in the drilling of wells in this formation. A highly experienced team has been assembled in the field in order to expand the prospect.
The company is more confident in attaining several commercial wells in this project and expects increase in the ongoing production and revenues in the first half of 2012. The completion of drilling and linking to infrastructure of identical horizontal wells has taken around 60-90 days and enabled the commercial sales of oil and gas.
The lands that were mentioned above enclose high-potential Mississippi Lime targets and represent Mississippi targets similar to the newly identified oil and gas reservoir, which is being used at the project. The development plan of the company for the project leasehold contains 8-12 further horizontal wells over the subsequent 2-3 years.
The two north and south Oklahoma projects enclose large regions and the Woodford Shale in the north has added an important value as a second resource play, which lies below the Mississippi and can possibly increase the ultimate reserves by two times. The newly drilled horizontal Woodford wells have initially produced more than 300 barrels of oil per day. The company is planning to expand the Woodford, when there is advancement in the Mississippi.
Several main regions lying below the 3,000 ac have been discovered by the company. Refinement and prioritization of targets have been done over the past few months.
