Outotec has signed a contract with Kennecott Utah Copper to supply 30 TankCell® e300 flotation cells, with an option for an additional 10 cells for retrofit of the company's Copperton Concentrator. The contract was booked in Outotec's Q1 order intake.
In addition to Outotec's proprietary flotation and automation technology supply, the scope of delivery also includes Outotec's new Virtual Experience Training program. The training is based on dynamic flotation process simulation and provides the operating personnel a safe environment to practice the ramp-up and special sequences of the production process. The delivery of services and equipment will begin towards the second half 2012 and will occur in stages through mid 2013.
The Copperton Concentrator, located close to Salt Lake City, Utah, processes ore mined from Bingham Canyon and produces copper and molybdenum concentrates.
"For this project, Kennecott carried out extensive benchmarking to identify the best technology in terms of optimized metallurgy, energy efficiency, flotation of coarse particles, handling rocks in the pulp, and maintainability of the equipment. Naturally, we are proud that the performance of our flotation cells fulfills the high expectations. This contract along with nearly 300 sold TankCell®e300 flotation cells worldwide indicate that we are the market leader in flotation technology", states Outotec's president and CEO Pertti Korhonen.
