Northern Lion Gold has declared that the company has commenced a rotary drilling campaign in the Republic of Cyprus. Currently, the company possesses 19 permits over 70 sq. km at the Republic of Cyprus.
The company’s 2012 drilling program will specifically examine permits that were purchased recently, following the drill program carried out at St. Nikolas. Northern Lion encounters 1.04% copper, 4.5 g/t gold and 19.08 g/t silver over 28.6 m in hole 11SN02. An aerial geophysical survey was carried out on newly outlined fresh targets. The company will announce additional details of this drill program at the earliest.
Drilling will be started by means of analyzing the newly purchased Pano Lefkara permit. The company’s earlier exploration work yielded rock chip sample lines, averaging 3.47 g/t gold over 41 m, 1.10 g/t gold over 25 m and 1.06 g/t gold over 24.5 m.
Silicified argillically altered fragments have been present in the Pano Lefkara breccia zone in a variably kaolinite-limonite altered matrix. Previous breccia zone drilling cut 0.42% copper and 0.91% zinc over 30 m in an extensive and strong clay-pyrite alteration zone. Previous work did not return any gold assays. The company has considered the existence of potential gold mineralization. The company carried out additional work at the breccia zone located 450 m towards south of it and has unveiled a gold geochemical anomaly and up to 6.76 g/t gold of rock grab samples.
