Caterpillar, a manufacturer of industrial gas turbines, diesel and natural gas engines, and construction and mining equipment, has completed its tender offer for ERA Mining Machinery.
This also includes Zhengzhou Siwei Mechanical & Electrical Manufacturing, ERA’s wholly-owned subsidiary. Through this latest acquisition, Caterpillar will be able to better serve its Chinese customers.
ERA specializes in design and development. The company teams up with Siwei, who develops mining roof support equipment, to provide support for underground coal mining equipment in China.
Caterpillar Group President, Steve Wunning informed that the company has made a strategic decision to expand its offerings to the growing base of mining customers in China. Over the course of time, Siwei will experience significant growth outside China. To this end, Caterpillar will leverage Siwei’s expertise to expand its roof support equipment business in China and ensure more safety and better efficiency of its customers within the mines.
Moreover, the acquisition is in line with Caterpillar's strategic plans to strengthen its leadership position in China’s coal mining equipment industry, and also allows the company to exploit the strong outlook in China for coal production. Presently, China is a leading producer of coal in the world, and the country is estimated to grow further in the coming years.
Siwei is based in Henan province in central China and will continue to be a part of Caterpillar Global Mining. Siwei has 4,300 employees specializing in manufacturing, engineering, sales and service operations.
