Excellon Resources declared that the exploration drill program has been resumed at the La Platosa. Currently, three diamond drill rigs are operating at Rincon del Caido, which lies 1.1 km towards the northwestern part of the La Platosa mine.
The company previously announced the results of holes EX12LP-986, 1008 and 1019, which were drilled in the Rincon del Caido and intercepted positive mineralized sulphide and source-type geology. Hole LP1019 intersected 336 g/t silver, 3.27% lead, and 1.96% zinc over 4.10 m; and 132 g/t silver, 3.13% lead and 1.74% zinc over 55.5 m.
Mineralization in hole LP1019 exists vertically between 516.70 and 572.16 m and hosts skarn that is rich in pyroxene and garnet. This skarn is situated at a marble-hornfels contact. The mineralization indicates several expansion phases along with the semi-massive to massive pyrite-rich portions, which appear as sulphides that are presently being excavated from the Platosa mantos.
The high lead content along with constant anomalous values of gold and skarn mineralogy shows that this region is probably rather distal to the Source and may be located along the feeder system. The Source may lie between the huge high-grade sulphide mantos and Rincon del Caido. The company is planning to conduct a downhole geophysical survey in order to direct further drill program. All on-site exploration drill rigs will specifically focus at Rincon del Caido.
Excellon is continuing to expand the La Platosa Mine to full-scale production. It intends to resume complete production, once it obtains the ordinary course re-opening permits. The company will offer an updated estimate for the remaining 2012 once full production begins.
