Weir Minerals Canada’s (WMC) reputation as a premier mining equipment solutions provider netted the company its largest single order in its history.
In early 2010, WMC won an order to supply three Multiflo® mega-barges for Suncor’s TRO Project, located 30km North of Fort McMurray, Alberta. This past spring, WMC and its team of contractors completed project construction prior to the hand-over to its customer for commissioning. The system is now fully operational.
Weir Minerals’ Multiflo® reclaim water barges are an integral part of tailings management solutions in oil sands applications. The Weir Minerals Mega-barge Project is a culmination of months of effort on the part of several key groups within Weir Minerals Canada. A cross-functional team of people from sales, product management and engineering led by the design center team in Mississauga, Ontario, with support from the sales teams in Calgary, Alberta, and Hazleton, Pennsylvania worked diligently for months prior to the award of the order. The project was kicked-off in the spring of 2010 with the contract to design, fabricate, assemble and launch the three reclaim water barges.
The complete turnkey project which includes design, fabrication, on-site construction, launch and supply of all equipment including Hazleton® pumps from Weir Minerals, barges, mechanical, electrical, process control and marine design represents a multi-million dollar endeavor for Weir Minerals. The project is the largest of its kind for WMC. It illustrates their successful effort in exploring adjacent market opportunities and moving up the value chain; taking the company beyond traditional supplier of pumps, to being a systems integrator and premier mining equipment solutions provider.
