Itochu Corp to Invest $1.6 Billion in Colombian Coal

Itochu Corp is to invest $1.6 billion in thermal coal operations in Colombia. The deal with Drummond Co. of the United States will give Itochu a 10% stake in the coal mining operations. The deal includes an exclusive right to export the extracted coal to Japan.

Nevada Governor Reduces Tax Breaks for Mining Industry

Nevada Governor Brian Sandoval signed a law reducing tax breaks to the mining industry, killing the tax cap that was in the constitution since 1864. The new law needs the state Taxation Department to report each year to the new commission on the expenses and deductions of each mining company operating in the state.
