Mount Gibson Iron Makes Ore Deal With Glencore

Mount Gibson Iron has agreed to sell iron ore to Glencore International. The Australian mining company signed a deal with the Swiss trading giant to sell 48% of the mine production of iron ore from its Extension Hill mine in Western Australia. This would roughly equal to 1.44 million mt/year from the mine located 239 km away by rail from the port of Geraldton.

NZ's Trans-Tasman Doubles Iron Ore Resource

Trans-Tasman Resources Ltd from New Zealand was pleased to announce that its iron sands resource estimate at the off-shore iron ore mineral resource has nearly doubled in size. The second official JORC compliant resource has been signed by an independent geological consultants Golders Associates.

Legacy Iron Ore Starts Phase 2 Drilling at Mt Bevan

Legacy Iron Ore has begun its second phase of drilling exploration at the Mt Bevan Iron Ore Project. The deep reverse circulation drilling is to take place at the southern part of the banded iron formation (BIF) covering strike extensions at the 617 million tonne resource.

Aquila Resources Ltd is selling its Washpool coal project. Tony Poli, chief executive officer of the company said that dozens of potential buyers were studying the purchase of the asset. The Perth based company hopes to raise AUD $1 billion for the asset.

China Iron Ore Imports Increased in July

As Chinese steelmakers begin to refurbish their dwindling stockpiles the prices of iron ore are set to rise again. China saw iron ore imports increase by 6.8 % in the month of July as the seasonal demand for raw material was considered.

BHP Billiton Acquires HWE Mining

BHP Billiton is to acquire HWE Mining from Leighton Holdings, allowing the mining giant to switch to an owner-operater model at its iron ore mining operations in the Pilbara region. The deal will see Leighton Holdings richer by $735 million. HWE Mining had provided close to 70% of operations on behalf of BHP Billiton on contractual basis.

Jindal Steel and Power to Use Rio Tinto's HIsmelt at Jharkhand

Jindal Steel and Power Limited are going to use a new technology for smelting iron ore by using non-coking coal in their upcoming plants in the Indian states of Jharkhand and Orissa. Jindal Steel operates a 3.0 million tons a year steel plant in Chhattisgarh state and is setting up a plant of an equal capacity in Jharkhand state.
