Rockland Minerals Corp. (TSX VENTURE:RL) reports that it has received the complete set of gold assays and multi-element analyses from 42 surface samples from various locations on the Schefferville Gold Project.
A total of 8 of these surface "grab" samples returned plus-one gram per ton gold values, the highest being 8.6 g/t Au. These assessment work "grab" samples were selected from rusty outcrops over wide areas of the claim groups and analyzed for a suite of "pathfinder" elements to aid in prospecting for gold on the property.
George F. Sanders, P.Geo, a director of the Company and Qualified Person under National Instrument 43-101 responsible for the technical content of this news release, states, "These widely-spaced grab samples demonstrate the robust and widespread nature of the gold mineralization on the various claim blocks comprising the Schefferville Gold Project. We are generating a comprehensive database of "pathfinder" elements useful to us in our exploration efforts, utilizing modern ultra-sensitive analytical methods that were unavailable until now. As expected, we are seeing strongly anomalous gold values associated with strong arsenic in the northern Arséne and Rusty Acres claim blocks, but arsenic is surprisingly low together with the high gold values in the southern claim blocks. There is a subtle but persistent copper, tungsten, bismuth and tellurium pathfinder geochemical signature accompanying the high gold fire assay results throughout the suite of samples analyzed so far. These will be useful in our gold exploration efforts. We see this same geochemical signature in the 2009 Western Troy drilling, and in the two gold-bearing samples from hole RL10-17, which were priority-assayed and reported on November 23, 2010."
Core is being sampled and shipped to the laboratory from the recently-completed 1,525 metre diamond drill program on the Schefferville Gold Property, and assay results will be reported when they are received.
Rockland is earning a 55% interest on part of the property from Western Troy Capital Resources Inc. The Western Troy claims are in 10 distinct blocks staked over known gold showings originally discovered in the mid-1980's by Québec government geologists. Many of the claims are contiguous and intermingled with Rockland's original gold claims, optioned from E.D. Black, where Rockland is earning a 100% interest.
