Kappes, Cassiday & Associates (KCA) has partnered with Starcore International Mines Ltd. to implement an environmental rehabilitation project to clean up mine tailings from Xali Gold Corp.’s Mexican Mine Tailings Reprocessing Project in El Oro, Mexico.
Starcore and KCA formed a joint venture to rehabilitate the environment.
We are very pleased with the strategy that KCA has brought to our Tailings Reprocessing project. We received the Change of Soil Usage permit almost a year ago, which allows the Tailings to be moved out of the historical deposition site from within the town of El Oro. KCA has now teamed up with Starcore to use their already permitted mine plant site for the Reprocessing, which is expected to significantly shorten the timeline to production.

KCA's recent test work on the El Oro Tailings Project shows high potential for 72 % gold and 80 % silver recovery utilizing a new technique introduced to Xali Gold. This technique produces gold and silver in the form of Dore, increasing the value of the royalty stream with Xali Gold. Further testing is needed to estimate gold and silver recoveries accurately, but KCA remains hopeful about the technique.
KCA will manage metallurgical and engineering studies and designs for the Tailings Reprocessing Project, including precious metal recovery. Starcore will fund construction costs and operate the facility.
Xali Gold has signed a Letter of Intent to Purchase Agreement with KCA for the El Oro Tailings Project. Once production starts on the El Oro Tailings Project, KCA will pay Xali Gold a gross royalty of 4 % of all gold and silver produced, less any royalties owed to others (the Municipality of El Oro), but no less than a 3 % royalty.
