Fairmont Resources has started the exploration at its Marmion South Contact Property. This property covers 8,208 ha around 200 km west of Thunder Bay in Ontario.
The property is lying to the east and north of the Atikokan town and is adjacent to the Osisko Mining’s large claims to the north, which includes the Hammond Reef deposit.
The company has engaged Coast Mountain Geological to execute the exploration program and the phase I drilling that includes testing the areas of historical sampling, drilling, prospecting, and trenching along a 3 km long strip in the altered and sheared volcanic and gabbros in the property’s south region. The location of the Olcott prospect is at the corridor’s southwest end, wherein up to 2.51 g/t gold over 10.8 m has been intersected historically. The company will also prospect and sample the several lineaments and shears in the Marmion batholith to assess the potential for occurrences analogous to the Hammond Reef.
Mr Dewonck has noted that in 2011, Osisko has planned to drill more than 300,000 m in and around the Hammond Reef deposit and has finished wide till sampling over its claims. The activity level is an indication of the significant potential in this region. The plan of Fairmont is to validate the values in the formerly documented occurrences to outline the prospective drill targets at the Marmion Property and to expand new targets in the formerly under explored regions of the property.
