AECOM Technology has secured a services contract worth of US$20 million for constructing the US$1.4 billion Ravensworth North mine project, which is located in New South Wales, Australia.
AECOM has formed an alliance with Downer EDI and Xstrata Coal for delivering the project. It will offer engineering, procurement and construction management (EPCM) services to the coal mine’s infrastructure constituent worth US$200 million, which is situated 12 mi to the western part of Singleton.
The CEO and President of AECOM, has stated that the company is delighted to receive this key contract that leverages its knowledge in the mining division. These kinds of project wins emphasize the varying international business model of AECOM from a geographic to an end-market position.
Xstrata Coal is to begin the export of semi-soft and thermal coal shipments in 2012. The company is expecting that the expansion of the project will extend the mining process at the location for a further 26 years, creating new jobs for 250 workers during the phase of construction and 550 jobs during the current operations.
Run of mine (ROM) production, which is an open-cut coal mine producing 4 Mt per year is constructed on the land contiguous to the ongoing Ravensworth operations, will be increased to 12 Mt annually and will feature an open-cut pit, which is an improved raw-coal system with an extended product coal system and a coal processing plant, expanded and a renovated mine industrial region connected with a new civil infrastructure.
