Conquest Resources, a gold exploration firm based in Ontario, has started the diamond drill campaign, totaling 1,100 m, at its Smith Lake gold property.
This property is situated in the Missanabie-Goudreau Greenstone Belt, north Ontario. The company has engaged Boart Longyear to secure a service drill rig and is performing an initial campaign to drill up to 12 near surface holes in order to examine the property for shallow vein systems and added structural target areas.
This property comprises 24 adjacent mining claims that were staked recently and six patented claims present in a region of 50 sq. km and beside the previous Renabie Gold Mine that were activated formerly by Barrick/Homestake and has produced gold of around 900,000 oz grading 6.25 g/t gold in average. During the mid-1980s, Conquest has identified the most considerable mineralization at the Smith Lake gold property and has encountered 68 g/t gold over 1.68 m.
Conquest has conducted a comprehensive ground magnetic survey at its mining claims, which were patented previously during 2011. Depending on the potential geochemical and geophysical information obtained for structurally housing volcanogenic massive sulphide (VMS) type and gold mineralization, the company has purchased further neighboring claims.
