Northern Lion Gold has begun the aerial geophysical survey at its western permits, located in the Republic of Cyprus. Geotech Airborne Malta has been engaged by the company to conduct a versatile time-domain electromagnetic (VTEM) helicopter-borne geophysical survey at line spacings of 100 m for 850 line-km and will also enclose 80 sq. km.
The aerial geophysical survey at the western permits will include 18 km of strike of favourable geology that is located on the Troodos Ophiolite Complex’s westside. The Limini mine has been producing previously, is located at the belt’s northern end, and was one of the main volcanogenic massive sulphide bodies in the country.
Huge prominent deposits in Cyprus were open at the surface and are present in the lower and upper Pillow Lava series. Further deposits are considered to occur along the complex’s underexplored western part. These deposits may not have surface expression but may be open to present aerial geophysical detection, which was not performed in this area.
The Geotech VTEM Time Domain B-field EM System has offered good penetration in depth and spatial outcome of anomalies. An independent consulting company, which is an aerial data specialist, will additionally process the information.
The company has conducted extensive reconnaissance soil sampling program along with mapping and prospecting of the western permits, during the surface exploration of 2010 and 2011. Further drill targets will be developed by the airborne survey along with the rock sampling and prospecting, mapping campaigns and regional soil geochemical surveys.
