Suroco Energy has drilled and examined the Charapa-1 exploration well, located in the Alea 1848A Block, Colombia. Currently, the company is in the process of deserting the well.
During October 2011, the company spudded the Charapa-1 exploration well, which focused on a formation mapped on three-dimensional seismic with several prospective hydrocarbon zones present in the Cretaceous aged structures. The well bore achieved a vertical depth of 10,546 ft. The company obtained several showings of natural gas and crude oil, while drilling the Villeta structure. Log analysis validated the oil existence in the Villeta U sand along with the further prospective hydrocarbons present in the Villeta N sand. The company cased the Charapa-1 well and started the testing during December, 2011. It tested the Villeta U sand by means of a hydraulic pump and recovered water formation at a gross rate of around 1600 barrels of water/day and also gravity crude oil of 1% 24 API.
A bridge plug separated the Villeta U sand, which was then perforated and cleaned. According to the post-drilling basis, the data obtained from the well will permit for conducting precise depth mapping solution over the Charapa and additional formations in the block.
Depending on the observed existence of strong oil and gas showings and drilling at the Charapa-1 well along with several reservoir intervals and other mapped formations in the block, the company has been chosen to continue the next exploration agreement phase that will need an exploration well drilling before the end of 2012.
The unit employed for drilling the Charapa-1 well will stay on site, while the civil operations will be continuing the multi-well development drilling campaign at the Suroco's Cohembi oil field in the Suroriente Block.
