Primero Mining has reported that a fresh high-grade vein, named the Alexa vein, has been discovered in the West Block. Five high-grade intercepts are included in the new discovery.
The company has encountered 7.4 g/t gold and 188 g/t silver over 4.1 m, 13.4 g/t gold and 543 g/t silver over 2.9 m, and 16.0 g/t gold and 508 g/t silver over 2.9 m.
Joseph F. Conway, Primero Mining’s CEO and President, commented that the 2012 exploration continues to provide exceptional results and the company is expecting to announce a reserve and resource update depending on drill program up to this month end. The Alexa vein is the fourth new vein found by the company during the last 18 months, and this backs up the company’s theory that significant potential for exploration exist in the West Block and Sinaloa Graben areas of the San Dimas district. Primero is confident that the continuous mineralization appears in high grade than the mine’s average reserve grade. The company’s 2012 exploration aims to identify the lateral expansions of the productive Robertita and Roberta vein systems, according to Conway.
Primero focuses on mineralization that is present near the current infrastructure along the productive central corridor. The proposed 2012 exploration also includes around 65,000 m of diamond drill program, which includes 35,000 m of delineation drilling, 30,000 m of exploration drilling and 3,000 m of exploration drifting.
The company identified the new Alexa vein in the West Block. The vein was intersected towards the western part of the Sinaloa fault, which is a normal primary fault that separates the Sinaloa Graben from the West Block.
Currently, Primero is mining for the Victoria and Alexa veins continuity in the West Block and Sinaloa Graben, respectively. A reserve and resource update will include the results from the 2012 exploration and delineation drill campaign.
