Lundin Norway, which is a wholly owned subsidiary of Lundin Petroleum, has announced that the Clapton exploration well 2/8-18S has been completed in PL440S. The well is situated approximately 5 km towards the eastern part of the Eldfisk Øst field and 10 km towards the northern part of the Valhall Field located in the North Sea.
The initial exploration target was to show hydrocarbons in the Shetland Group’s chalks. Reservoir rocks were encountered in the well, as anticipated in the Shetland Group. However, the encountered reservoir properties were not as good as expected. The company has conducted data acquisition and sampling program.
The well was specifically drilled to a depth of 2,619 m in vertical beneath the surface of the sea. It was stopped in the Hidra formation’s creatceous rocks. The depth of water at the location is 69 m. Maersk Guardian, the jack-up rig, specifically drilled the well, which will be plugged and ruled out as a dry well.
Lundin Norway has an 18% interest in PL440S. Faeroe Petroleum is the operator of PL440S with 40%. The other partners of PL440S are Det Norske with 10%, Noreco with 12%, and Dana with 20%.
Lundin Petroleum is a Sweden-based an oil and gas exploration and production firm. The company’s assets are mainly situated n South East Asia and Europe. It has probable and proven reserves of 211 million barrels of oil equivalent.
