North American Nickel Announces Completion of Drill Program at Maniitsoq Project

North American Nickel (NAN), a mineral exploration firm, has announced that initial drilling program has been completed at the company’s wholly-owned Maniitsoq project. NAN started the drill program on 26 August and completed it on 16 September, 2012. The company drilled 1,550 m, totaling 9 diamond drill holes.

NAN has specifically logged all nine drill holes and sampled all intersections of mineralization. It has compiled 531 samples in total for assaying. The samples are currently being sent to Activation Laboratories for examination. NAN is expecting to receive the sampling results in four to eight weeks.

The drill holes analyzed electromagnetic (EM) anomalies that were related to the nickel sulphide showings and noritic rocks. During 2011 and 2012, the company defined the anomalies by conducting VTEM and SkyTEM helicopter-borne, EM and time domain surveys. Eight holes were surveyed by Ontario-based Crone Geophysics with the help of three-component borehole pulse EM (BHEM) system. NAN has completed the initial analysis and will perform the final analysis, once the assay results are obtained.

Results obtained from BHEM surveys and drilling program will be combined with the present exploration database of the company, wherein the database will facilitate the geological team to confirm the plans for drilling at the Maniitsoq project by next year.

The Maniitsoq property is a district-scale project in Greenland, and includes mineral exploration license of 4,983 sq. km that encloses existence of a number of high-grade copper-nickel sulphide related to mafic-ultramafic and norite intrusions. The long belt, of more than 70 km, lies along, and near the southwestern coast of Greenland.
