Kumba Iron Ore Ltd., the unit of Anglo American Plc disputing South Africa’s award of prospecting rights over its Sishen deposit to another company, said Chairman Lazarus Zim resigned as a result of a conflict of interest.

IMX Resources Loads First Shipment of Cairn Hill Iron Ore Bound for China

The first ore from Cairn Hill mine has arrived in Port Adelaide for shipment. The iron ore from the northern South Australia mine is due to be sent to China. The consignment weighs 62,000 tonnes and has been loaded for its journey.

Brazil's MMX to Expand Operations with $2.9 Billion Investment

Brazilian mining group MMX Mineracao e Metalicos S.A. (MMX) has decided to invest 5 billion Brazilian Reais (US$2.9 billion) to expand its operations. The company's board has approved the investment in two iron ore mining projects both of which are located in Brazil.

To fund a mine expansion the Australian company Fortescue Metals Group Ltd is planning a $800 million bond sale. The money from the funds raised will be used for infrastructure expansions of the company's operations in the Pilbara region of Western Australia.

Guinea Re-Opens Borders

The air and sea borders of Guinea have been re-opened by Prime Minister Jean-Marie Dore ending the curfew that had been imposed. The West African nation saw street violence after elections which had led to the imposition of the curfew. The hours of the night time curfew have also been reduced from 6 pm to 6 am to 10 pm to 6 am.
