Crown Resources Fined for Water Testing Compliance

The Washington Department of Ecology slapped a $22,000 fine on a mining company for submitting incorrect test results of water discharge from its gold mine.

The mining company Crown Resources Corp is a subsidiary of the Canadian company Kinross Gold.

The firm has a period of 30 days to pay the fine or to appeal the case. The goldmine located in north central Washington is located at the Buckhorn Mountain in Okanogan County. As per the requirements of its permit the discharge water samples had to be tested once in two weeks.

Doug Jones the vice president and general manager of Crown Resources said that the inaccurate reports were made from May to August 2009. He also said that the inaccuracies had been addressed and the company had taken action to ensure future compliance with the permit.
