Andina Copper Mine Resumes Full Production

The Andina Copper mine in Chile has resumed full production with mine workers returning to work after heavy rainfall and landslides had prevented access on Feb 11. The state owned mine in central Chile is now functioning normally as per officials.

Citing company policy the official declined to be named but advised that the mine was operating normally since 2pm New York time Sunday. It had been shut down as workers were unable to reach the mine to begin their shift at 10 pm on Feb 11.

The Andina Copper mine is located 80 km north east of Santiago. It sits at an elevation of between 3,700 to 4,200 meters above sea level in the Andes Mountains. The mine has a production output of about 210,000 tons of copper concentrate annually. It was ranked at the seventh largest mine in Chile in the year 2008.

The country is the world’s largest producer of copper. More than half the country’s exports come from copper sales. Copper has seen exponential rise in its price in the last year and is a highly desirable commodity in the global market place.
