Paul Knight has been named the global head of the UBS metals and mining group. The Swiss investment bank made the announcement in an internal memorandum.
The banker, Paul Knight, was previously the head of investment banking in Latin America and the head of industrial investment banking for Europe, the Middle East and Africa.
Mr Knight will be based in Toronto and report to Karl Knapp who is the head of the bank’s global industrials group. He joined the company in 1994 and is considered by the company to be one of their mort impactful coverage bankers in the Metals and Mining industry. Mr Knight has served as a primary coverage banker for a number of complex global clients such as Vale, Arcelor Mittal, Southern Copper and Barrick Gold.
His appointment comes hot on the heels of two high profile departures from the bank. UBS announced earlier this month that metals banker Dieter Hoeppli and mining banker Dan Chu had decided to leave the bank. The departure of a wave of executives from USB has caused the bank to hire others such as Wachovia’s former head of investment banking, Stephen Cummings.
