Northgate Minerals has reached the significant milestone of producing half millionth ounce of gold at the Fosterville Gold Mine in April 2011.
The company is ready to ship 100,000 ounces of gold for the third straight year and the highest monthly production is 11,000 ounces in March. Also, it is planning to start production at its new Harrier orebody. This new orebody will help to reach the annual gold production of around 100,000-ounce predicted for the subsequent years.
Fosterville Gold Mine has joined with an elite group of companies, who have reached this significant milestone in Australia. Also, Northgate has produced two millionth ounce of gold at the Stawell Gold Mine in March 2010.
The location of Fosterville Gold mine is 20 kilometres east of the Bendigo Township. At present, there are more than 300 people working, in addition to contractors and permanent employees. Bendigo Township is a past gold mining region, which is situated 150 km north of Melbourne. The company has predicted that the gold production must have achieved 22 million ounces subsequent to the initial discoveries in 1851.
