New Dawn Mining, a gold mining company in Zimbabwe, has begun an 8,000 m diamond drill campaign at the company’s Camperdown Mine gold project. This project belongs to a part of the company’s Gweru Gold Camp, situated in Zimbabwe’s Shurugwi District.
A small underground and open-pit operation have been conducted on the Camperdown Mine project. The project is believed to hold good potential for the future. Mineralization is present in several discrete zones located in a domal-shaped banded iron formation, which are cross-cut by many quartz veins. The banded iron formation dome has moderate near-surface dips of less than 30° in all main directions.
The diamond drill program has aimed to examine the popular mineralized zones’ down dip level in the claims area, together with 58 inclined holes and a drill outline on a 200 m grid. During the program, depths, orientations and positions of the hole can be altered based on the drill results. Primary drill program may be conducted around the regions of the former underground operation for efficient positioning of the drill rig and have an aim of examining the down-dip level of mineralization.
Based on the drilling parameters, the program may be conducted for up to six months, and also the company expects to complete the analysis of the results by December end of 2012. New Dawn may take further exploratory work into account to outline and develop this opportunity, depending on this drill program results.
The company will carry out wide structural analysis and geological mapping at the property, together with the ongoing drill program. The Redhill deposit, a small open pit is present around 650 m towards the southwestern part of Camperdown and is not a material property to New Dawn Mining.
