Mariana Resources, an exploration and development firm focused on Chile and Argentina, has announced that a diamond drill program has been completed at the flagship Las Calandrias gold-silver project, which is located in the Santa Cruz Gold Province, South Argentina.
The company planned to drill 2,705 m and completed 2,164 m, totaling 21 holes in spite of difficult access issues caused by severe winter weather conditions.
The drill holes were specifically designed to examine fresh targets, which were found nearby and beyond the present resource limits of the Calandria Sur project, and also to confirm modified geological models after completion of outcrop channel or trench sampling, comprehensive mapping, re-sampling of former drill core and complete ground magnetics. Six historic drill holes will be deepened during the drill program.
Two holes located at the Nido Este target were specifically drilled in order to examine a known NE structural corridor located nearby a geochemical anomaly and strong chargeability. The company has made plans to examine the Pichones target using two holes and the target may lie over a centre of blind mineralization, which was not drilled because of access issues.
The company is likely to announce the results of the re-sampling and drilling program of selected former holes in the coming weeks.
The Aguila project, which lies 60 km towards south of the Las Calandrias, cannot be drilled due to extreme weather conditions. The company has re-scheduled to commence the drill program in spring season, when the weather turns favorable.
