OPEC, the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries, has honored Professor Øystein Noreng from the BI Norwegian Business School with the research award 2012 for his lifetime academic work in the petroleum and energy economics field.

This OPEC Award for Research has recognized the exceptional work carried out by the professor in the research and analysis of issues related to the petroleum field. The award winners have to show integrity and independence in high levels and to take part in open debates.
Candidates have to necessarily publish a significant volume of work at high standards, in order to get selected for the research award. OPEC presented this award to Professor Øystein Noreng at 5th International Seminar, which was held in Vienna from June 13 to 14, 2012. Professor was congratulated for his lifetime work in the petroleum and energy economics field. The worth of this OPEC award is EUR 25,000.
OPEC established its award for research during 2004. Robert Mabro, Professor Peter Odell and Professor Paul Stevens have been previously recognized with this award during 2004, 2006 and 2009, respectively.
