Discovery Harbour Resource and Northern Shield Resources have announced that they have started the drilling program at the Wabassi property, located in North Ontario. The company has planned to drill 2,000 m, totaling 10 holes.
Drill testing was carried out on four VTEM anomalies, located within the Wabassi property, during 2010 and 2011. At three of these four anomalies, VMS-type copper-silver-zinc mineralization was encountered. The companies encountered 1.1% copper and 97 g/t silver over 7.7 m in the A1 zone, 32 g/t silver and 2.3% zinc over 50 m in the A2 zone and 1.4% copper, 0.11 g/t gold, 35 g/t silver and 2.1% zinc over 35 m in the E Zone.
More than 40 anomalies were discovered by an aerial VTEM survey, wherein 19 anomalies have signatures that are comparable to that of A1, A2 and E zones. Numerous unexamined VTEM anomalies will be the focus of the drill program, which will strive to expand the prominent mineralization in the A1, A2 and E zones. The Wabassi property encloses volcanic rocks, which stretch to 40 km, hosting this latest copper-gold-silver-zinc VMS district. Northern Shield’s Chief Geologist, Christine Vaillancourt will supervise the drilling program.
Northern Shield is a Canada-based company, which targets Cu-Zn-Ag at the Tempest and Wabassi properties, and platinum group element (PGE) exploration program in Canada.
