Aurizon Mines, a gold producer, has announced further results from the 2012 drilling campaign conducted at the company’s Casa Berardi Mine located in Northwest Quebec.
The drill program was aimed to enhance the quality of the prominent Zone 123 resources and to outline the mineralization expansion. The focus of the campaign is 300 m beneath and 100 m over the level of 810 m, enclosing 300 m of area along strike that is 400 m thick and is about 1.0 km towards the eastern part of the West Mine shaft.
The company drilled 24 fresh holes. Fourteen of the 24 holes containing 18 mineralized intervals yielded a metal factor of 10 or higher. These recent results have validated the continuity of formerly discovered lenses; and show fresh mineralized lenses found outside the popular resource block.
In Zone 123, mineralized gold exists in cherty units, quartz veins, and dispersed and huge sulphide structures found between the South break towards the eastern and western part in an environment containing volcanic-sedimentary. The mineralized lenses were identified along the side of a main stratigraphic horizon.
According to the Principal Exploration Geologist, Gilles Carrier, the drilling results validating fresh mineralized lenses located near the Zone 123 has increased their geological knowledge of various styles of mineralization; thus increasing their understanding of the ore depositional mechanism and the prospective to discover further clusters of lenses identified in this structure.
With the help of one or two rigs from the 810 m exploration drift, the company will continue the underground in-fill drill program till this year end, based on these results, and also to outline the up-dip and down dip expansions of the lenses. The company will complete an updated mineral resource calculation by December 31, 2012.
